Design Sessions

Design sessions are by appointment at our studio or can be scheduled virtually. Design sessions are scheduled for roughly four to eight months prior to your event date. If you think you should come in prior to eight months, please let us know.

Custom Design Invitation Timeline

Semi-Custom Design Invitation Timeline

We offer a single, one-hour complimentary design session at our Media, San Juan studio. Additional meetings prior to making a deposit will require a $75 non-refundable deposit that will be credited toward your invitation order. At your design session, we get to know you and discuss all the information necessary to create your perfect custom invitation suite. We show you our portfolio of invitation suites, invitation samples, as well as paper and ink samples.

At the design session, we will give you a price estimate valid for 30 days. If you would like to order your invitations at your design session, we request a deposit of 50% of the estimate. Payment options include credit card or cash.

Should you decide to order invitations with us, we will provide expert advice on invitation wording, etiquette, and the best ways to incorporate additional information including hotel and transportation information into your invitation suite.

Please bring any and all information regarding your wedding day logistics (date and time of the ceremony, reception, after-party, etc.) as well as photos, swatches, or other wedding inspiration!


Pricing

Custom invitations will cost more than our semi-custom invitations or anything you purchase online from any of the major wedding invitation sites, but the experience and product will be very different. The beauty of our wedding shop is that you are receiving the high-quality design and product without the custom design price tag. On average wedding shop orders range from $750 - $1,500 depending on quantity and add ons. The average cost of truly custom wedding invitations, regardless of where you purchase them, will be roughly 5% of your overall wedding budget. We recommend budgeting somewhere between $12-$25 each, for custom wedding invitations.

Payment

A 50% deposit of the estimated cost of your stationery is requested at the time of order. Balances must be paid in full at the time of pick up. Payment methods include cash or check.

Velvet has a $750 minimum on all invitation design orders regardless of style, quality or quantity. We are sorry, but we cannot add stationery or products outside of the invitation suite including save the dates or “day of items” to meet the $750 minimum.


Proposal/Quote

Proposal/quotes are subject to change should you change your order; or request a quantity increase, additional proofs, and/or special customization/design changes. Velvet will inform you of all additional fees before they are incurred. Estimates expire after 30 days and/or at the expiration of any applicable sale prices. 

Ordering

Ordering is easy! During your consultation we will collect all the necessary information to place your order. Orders will be placed after you approve your proposal and provide a deposit of 50%. 

Quantity

Minimum quantity for orders is 50. Keep in mind that invitations quantities go by HOUSEHOLD. So, for example, if your guest count is 200, you would typically only need 100 invitations. This may vary based on couples vs. families vs. single guests. I can help you determine your exact stationery count!

Proofs

For Semi-Custom Invitations:  I’ll mock up the design within 3 days. You can approve the design or let us know what revisions you’d like us to make! 

For Custom Invitation: I'll take your vision and work my magic. I’ll mock up 2-3 design options based on your vision and you can approve the design or let us know what revisions you’d like us to make! Please keep in mind that custom invitations might take a little longer (3-6 days)

Photos & Artwork

Adding photos and special artwork to your stationery is a great way to personalize it! In fact, we can take your photo, artwork, or logo and through your invitation and reception materials and brand your entire event for you! Photos and artwork should be high resolution, at least 600 dpi, to ensure quality printing. We are happy to review your photo and image for the requisite quality. 

Production Time

Once proofs are approved, please allow up to two to three weeks for production time. Rush production and shipping is available for an additional fee. 

Calligraphy

Velvet can arrange for gorgeous hand calligraphy of your guests’ addresses on outer/inner invitation envelopes. The price of calligraphy is typically $4-$6 per envelope and any applicable shipping costs incurred to ship the envelopes to the calligrapher. Please ask to see samples of the calligraphy. Please allow two to three weeks for calligraphy for 100 invitation sets, additional time may be required for higher quantities. Velvet also offers digital printing of your guests addresses on outer/inner envelopes for roughly $1.00 per envelope.
